WPC™ Transceivers

Watteco's Watt Pulse Communication -WPC™- family of chips enables manufacturers (OEM) to build reliable Ultra Low Power Line Communication (PLC) networking equipment that leverages the grid power to support various smart energy and home control initiatives. The company's products based on its patented WPC™ technology modulate and demodulate data to control remote equipment over power lines throughout the AC power circuit in the residential grid.

With WPC™ technology, communication between devices is accomplished on a single- or multi-phase low-voltage (110V/220V) electrical wire (50Hz/60Hz) at a data rate of 10kbits/s . Unlike other PLC systems which inject energy in order to modulate data, WPC™ Technology uses the grid's resonance frequencies to communicate using electromagnetic pulses. This approach eliminates the need for an analog front end reducing significantly the system cost. The WPC™ device is simply connected to a 5V power supply and is ready to communicate to support multiple grid applications.
WPC™ technology's unique approach makes it the ideal choice for developing low speed data PLC modems combining small size and a simplified integration with reduced power consumption and low Bill of Materials (BOM) costs

Watteco also provides turn key solutions with protocol stacks running on network processors and allowing OEMs to reduce their Time to Market (TTM), engineering cost while integrating an efficient PLC technology into their products. Leveraging the ultra low power WPC™ physical layer, Watteco's family of chips use turnkey, open source communication stacks for the upper layers to provide OEMs with high interoperability capabilities allowing wireless and wireline network and sensors to better co-exist:
